Das Porträt “Femme assise, robe bleue” (Sitzende Frau, blaues Kleid) von Pablo Picasso ist bei einer Auktion in New York für 45 Millionen US-Dollar (rund 41 Millionen Euro) versteigert worden. Das teilte das Auktionshaus Christie’s mit.

Das Gemälde aus dem Jahr 1939, das zu den bekanntesten des spanischen Künstlers zählt, stellt seine damalige Muse Dora Maar auf einem Stuhl sitzend dar. Die Nationalsozialisten hatten es 1940 von Picassos Händler Paul Rosenberg in Frankreich beschlagnahmt. Widerstandskämpfer der Résistance hielten allerdings den Zug an, in dem das Bild nach Deutschland transportiert werden sollte, und stellten es sicher.

Für diesen Dienstag ist auch bei Sotheby’s eine Auktion mit Werken unter anderem von Picasso geplant. Zudem sollen in der US-Metropole Gemälde von Egon Schiele, Claude Monet, Kasimir Malewitsch, Alberto Giacometti und Gustav Klimt unter den Hammer kommen. Für das Schiele-Werk “Danae” wird ein Preis von bis zu 40 Millionen Dollar (etwa 37 Millionen Euro) erwartet. Der expressionistische Künstler aus Österreich hatte das Gemälde 1909 im Alter von 19 Jahren geschaffen. Das Bild zeigt eine nackte Frau und gilt als eines der ersten großen Öl-Meisterwerke des Künstlers.
