Die erstmalige Schau der königlichen Kleider findet anlässlich des 90. Geburtstags der Königin in diesem Jahr statt. Unter den Ausstellungsstücken ist auch das Hochzeitskleid, das die Queen bei ihrer Trauung mit Prinz Philip 1947 trug – und ihr Krönungskleid. Auch das schwarze Seidenkleid, das die Monarchin bei ihrem Treffen mit Schauspielerin Marilyn Monroe auf einer Filmpremiere 1956 trug, können sich die Besucher anschauen.

Die britische Monarchin sei weltweit bekannt dafür, dass sie sich gern von Kopf bis Fuß in einer einzigen Leuchtfarbe kleide, sagt die Kuratorin der Ausstellung, Caroline De Guitaut. Auf diese Weise sorge sie dafür, “bei wichtigen Anlässen stets gut sichtbar” zu bleiben. Auch ihre Hüte dienen demnach diesem Zweck, wobei diese durchaus mit der Mode gehen. In der Öffentlichkeit ist die Queen nur selten ohne Kopfbedeckung anzutreffen.

Die Ausstellung wird am Samstag eröffnet, läuft bis zum 2. Oktober und gilt als die größte ihrer Art.
